We have all heard the expression, “Actions speak louder than words.” This rings true in politics as well. Politicians’ actions, or lack thereof, can be strong indicators of their support of their constituents. Congressman Brian Mast votes and campaigns on hot-topic issues to spur support from his voters. However, integrity and morality are not always his primary concern. In fact, many of his votes obstruct the progress of the Biden Administration. He is not a problem solver, but an obstructionist.
His votes have mostly aligned with the GOP 90.6 percent of the time in his career as Congressman and 100 percent in the 117th Congress (2021-22). Mast campaigned on issues which protect the environment, make healthcare more affordable, and improve the economy, but he has done the opposite.
In 2020, Mast opposed legislation protecting labor, combating brutality and racial discrimination by police and negotiating lower prescription drug prices. He voted against protecting birth control, stopping oil companies from price gauging, capping insulin prices at thirty-five dollars a month, and funding to boost baby formula production. His votes in Congress favor the wealthy 86 percent of the time. Mast's campaign for re-election has not been honest. For example, his 2018 campaign website stated that he would protect “Medicare benefits and vote to expand access to treatments”. However, in December of 2021, he voted against the Protecting Medicare and American Farmers from Sequester Cuts Act that would delay and cut multiple Medicare provider payments scheduled for January 1, 2022.
Mast openly states that the 2020 election was stolen and voted NOT to certify the election. He voted with 100+ Republicans to obstruct a certification of a free and fair election. This fact, should immediately disqualify him from running for re-election or hold any public office.
Brian Mast is not truthful about his accomplishments and his failure to fulfill his campaign promises speaks volumes. A three term Congressman does not deserve another chance. He attempted to disrupt a peaceful transfer of power. It is time for change. Consider his votes in Congress before you head to the polls. Congressional District 21 deserves a new representative who can truly solve the problems of south Floridians. Vote Blue November 8, 2022!
